And now we wait.

We just sent over the last change order to our SR...all decisions have been finalized and there will be no more changes made.  I inquired about the timeline, and if the permits come back in the usual amount of time (our county is apparently very good about that) we should be breaking ground by the end of September.  Surprisingly, our SR seems to think we could still make a November delivery date!  I had thought there was no way we'd close before mid-December at the earliest.  Optimism aside, I just want to be in the new house before Christmas...while we asked the families to avoid lots of gifts this year (we requested assistance with a play structure for our boys instead of toys), I really don't want to have to move extra stuff!

  1. That's awesome with the optimism of a November date. Ours is tentative to start mid-September with a mid-December delivery. I'd almost want it to be either earlier or later, since I get the feeling moving the week before Christmas would be rife with problems.

    1. Sounds like you'll be just a week or two ahead of me! Mid-December would be in the 90 day range, which is what I hear is the standard. Hopefully we'll have a mild fall so that there aren't any weather delays!

  2. Hi Amanda, that is awesome! I am so excited for you and your family!! We were told mid-September with delivery mid-December. Our SR said, she can give us dates for delivery; however, the PM is usually a better judge for the settlement date. I feel just like you do--I just want to be in before Christmas. What did you add to your final change order? I love witnessing how we can customize our Rome models. We are closed for change orders too! :-( But it is a good sign because it feels like forward movement for breaking ground. Did you get the approval for the cook top on the island?

    1. WE didn't go for the cook top...that wasn't a big deal to me anyways. Down the road we'll be replacing the formica with granite so we can try to rearrange a little then. Our last change order was just the official paperwork for the stuff we'd already decided on, it was just that our SR was off for the weekend so it couldn't be done till she got back.

    2. Ohh no really :-( I thought that was an excellent idea and very creative!! I love the 180x formica. The blue storm which is absolutely beautiful. Will they install it with the contoured edge? They wouldn't do it for our community. BTW-I also hope we have a mild fall too! Fingers crossed!

    3. It just wasn't that important. They WILL do the contoured edge on the formica, but they advise against it. Apparently not all edges are contoured and a lot of people get upset because they didn't get what they expected. And I've seen examples of it on the blogs. Maybe I should do a post about it...

    4. Great idea to do a post on it!! It's great they will do it for you! The website with the formica introduced two new styles which I thought were awesome! However, our SR said they wouldn't do it and I knew I would have to put in another special request because it was for the wet bar. At that point, I just decided against it. I just want to get the house built.

  3. How exciting! We are building in Richmond too -- a Ravenna. They are clearing our lot this week and are expecting an early/mid December close. I'm hoping for a mild fall too!!
