It's a small world, after all...

The model that we've been going to for the Rome doesn't have a basement, and we've had a hard time figuring out a master plan for that space.  Recently another Rome model opened with the walkout basement, so today when the toddler decided that napping in his crib wasn't happening we hopped in the car and trekked out to it.  After his usual 41 minute car nap we stopped at the new model and went on in.  The SR on duty welcomed me, and I told him right off the bat that we were there to scope out the basement.  When I told him where we were building, he said he lived there!  Howdy neighbor!  I find this especially amusing because the PM we have for our build lives in the neighborhood of this model.  I guess they all choose to work far away from where they live!

So we went on down to the basement and I took a bazillion pictures so we could reference them later.  I was especially interested in how the under-deck area would look, since we'll have a deck as well.  When I'd taken all the pictures I could think of, we went back upstairs where a couple people were talking, and I caught the tail-end of a "wall ovens in a Rome" conversation.  Being the nosy intrusive helpful person that I am, I mentioned that he could do what we're doing and put an oven in the island.  He just looked at me and said, "Are you Rome-ing in Richmond?"  Talk about shock!!  First time I've come across a reader face-to-face.  He called his wife in with their two boys and we laughed about it all.  I think their SR (I guess they were coming from a different neighborhood?) was a little weirded out by the blog talk, but it was actually pretty cool talking about the stuff we'd seen online.  So since I'm sure you're reading this, fellow Richmonders, it was nice to meet you and if you start a blog let me know!  :)

**edited to add:  they started a blog!  http://ourromesweethome.blogspot.com

  1. Hey there Rome-ing in Richmond. That was a funny chance meeting in the Rome model. My wife and I started our blog this morning (http://ourromesweethome.blogspot.com/). Check it out!

  2. It is definitely a small world :). I think a decent amount of Ryan PMs and SRs have homes built by Ryan (at least my SR and PM do as well). It does make you feel a bit better when the employees actually live in the products they sell.

  3. Small world indeed!

As far as the SR and/or PM choosing to live far from work, that may not be the case. Our SR lives just minutes away from the community that we will be living in, which was perfect for her... but RH just rotated her out to a community that is about an hour away. I guess RH has the ability to send the SRs where ever they want/need them. So it looks like we'll be dealing with our SR over the phone from here on out.

    1. Yes, I know they move around from neighborhood to neighborhood as needed. It was just funny that they were the exact opposite.

Sorry to hear your SR moved...is it because your neighborhood is pretty much sold out?

    1. I can post them all if you want...the model was reversed so it's the opposite of what we're getting, but at least you get an idea about the space in the basement. Let me finish organizing them and I'll either put them on a tab or put a link to a Flickr group. I have a lot of pictures! :)

    2. That would be awesome Amanda to post them on a tab on your blog!! You have offered great resources for US Romer's out here! lol We actually have the reversed plan so I am always adjusting myself when I see the original plan, so it would be nice to see the model pictures reversed. Thank you!! What is the name of the community, we were in Richmond yesterday for the day. On my next visit to Richmond for a family gathering I will check it out in person, but in the meantime, it would be awesome to see pictures. Thank you so much.

  5. Yay, another Rome-er to follow ;) I am super jealous of all of the houses with basements. In the south, they don't really offer them :(
