Laminate counters - a request

I'm working on getting all my pictures from the Pre-construction meeting together, but in the meantime...any of you who has the Formica counters in the kitchen, did you get the contoured edge?  I've tried figuring it out  who has it by myself but I'm failing miserably.  I want to do a post on the subject because our SR recommended against it, and I need pictures so I can explain why.  My current bathroom has a pretty good example, but since I haven't seen the Ryan version I'm not sure if it's the same problem.

Thanks!

  1. Is it the ogee edge? If it is, I think you are looking for this: http://buildingourverona.blogspot.com/2012/04/we-have-kitchen.html

  2. We have the Formica with the contoured edge in our kitchen and we love them. Everyone who sees them comments on how nice the edge is. However, after seeing the side splashes used in Colleen's kitchen (From Queens to Cobblestone), I made a panicked call to my PM. I did not like how the side splash was taller and did not follow the front contour of the counter. My PM was able to manage to not use the side splashes.
Why has your SR advised against the edge? If you would like specific pics, just let me know.

    1. The Queens to Cobblestone have shut down their blog!! :-( They made that last post and said they were moving on from the blog. However, you can see it in the link above, I just checked.

  4. Thanks everyone! Rachel, you seem to be the lady of the hour. :) What she said was that people don't get what they expect...from the sound of Q-to-C's problem, that's exactly what I have in my current bathroom. I was also was surprised by the lack of contouring on the curved edges. Do you think you could take pictures for me? I'd like one of where it switches from contoured to square on the peninsula, and if you have any corners (maybe the bar into the morning room?) I'd like a picture of that. Were there any places that you expected contour that you didn't get it?

Thank you so much for your help! I know I was disappointed about not having that ogee edge, but I also don't want something that looks horrible! :)

    1. I just published some pics on my blog. I had to use my iPod and I'm not sure how to label using the mobile app. Just let me know if you need any other pics or descriptions. My SR did not know much about the product, so I had to do a lot of research on my own.

    2. Just saw them on Rachel's blog post!! They look great with the ogee edges!! In our community, they refuse to put the ogee or contoured edges on the formica!! I am sure if someone wants to do them, they must submit a non-standard request if their community does not offer it. I saw them in someone's home in our community and I did not like it at ALL!! So I switched back to granite! I was going to get the 180fx formica in blue storm on our wet bar which is very pretty. I would have been content with it had they allowed the ogee edges. Our SR said that they only put them in the kitchen and wet bar and they definitely do not put formica in the bathrooms. She strongly discouraged it because of the moisture in the bathrooms ruins the formica over time.

  5. What are the cons to having contoured edge? We had a contoured edge on our formica in our previous house. We only lived there for 2yrs, but had no problems with it.
