Put it in reverse!

The house, that is.  Not the process.  We're still building!  :)

As you might recall from this post, I was less than pleased with the size of our backyard.  There was also a concern that there might be a step down from the basement to the yard, which I aired at our pre-construction meeting.  Apparently once the lot was cleared and our PM got a better look at it, he decided to see if there was anything he could do about our house's positioning, because it became apparent that there would be a fair-sized "hump" in our driveway as well.  He checked with the engineers about reversing the floorplan (which I erroneously assumed had been done the FIRST time around...) and lo and behold, all three problems should be fixed!  We actually got quite a bit more back yard out of it.  Granted, we lost quite a bit of driveway, but I think we'll manage.  It's a rare day when we have more than three extra cars visiting, and there should still be room for that.

Here is a before/after of the plat.  I'm bright enough to have figured out the length of wall/distance to property line measurements, but if you happen to have a CLUE what any of the non-measurements are for, by all means educate me!

Per plan on left, reversed on right.

So I'll be making another trip (or four) to the model that's the reversed floorplan, to take a bazillion more pictures.  And yes, Nadase, I'll post them!  ;)

  1. Alright, Alright, Alright! Reverse it is!! Isn't it a blessing for things to work out that put a smile on your face. I checked the plat out and it makes a huge difference with the house reversed! Your house is similar to ours that most of the yard is to the side of the house. AND YAY for ROME pictures! Thanks for looking out for a SISTAH!

    When do you break ground?

    1. We're crossing our fingers that his plan for Wednesday goes through! My older boy has preschool so just as soon as we drop him off we'll be up to see if they've started!

  2. Most of those are actual elevation numbers to help show what the sloping / drainage should be once built. Good luck! :)

    1. Okay, thanks! I was kinda thinking the lines did that, but it didn't occur to me that the numbers pertained to it. :)

  3. Fingers Crossed on Wednesday working out for you! Our house is reversed as well - probably because we're on a corner lot so it adds a bit more privacy to our backyard

    1. Thanks! I was under the impression that the orientation of the houses on each lot was pre-determined for aesthetic reasons, regardless of what floorplan you chose...it wasn't something they presented as an option or even really discussed. Though they might have if we'd started out as a reversed home. In other words, I have no idea. :)

    2. Amanda, you can now print the reversed floor plan off the RH site. I try to look at that copy to help keep the orientation of the reversed floor plan in my mind.
