Concrete accomplishment

We have a slab!

I couldn't take many pictures because that bulldozer front-loader was actively at work, zooming around at quite a clip.  He was in the front when we pulled up but then started working on the back.  Our big piles of dirt are gone, no doubt used to fill in the porch (no secret stashes for me either!) and the backfilling up against the walls.

As far as I can tell we don't have any lumber on site, but it didn't occur to me to look anywhere but the cul-de-sac...so I guess it's possible it was down the road somewhere.  But we do have these, which I originally thought would be used in the slab process since they were here before that.

Our PM did say he hoped to start framing Friday/Saturday, so if the lumber came after we were there this morning, it's possible they could get started over the weekend.  I will DEFINITELY be checking every day now!

  1. This is great! According to your pictures you look ready to go. Again, I really love the color of your brick--no such color in our community. I would definitely check every day! These moments are so special! We both may begin framing on Saturday--it's going to be a bit cloudy but I think they will still get started. Fingers crossed!

BTW-you will be closing way before I do--your clock says 60 days and our closing is 30 days later.

    1. lol...your clock is also based on an actual date, whereas mine was just a random time that we MIGHT be closing. :)

    2. LOL Our PM is confirmed with that date! He may be trying to surprise us. But as it stands my plans are for January 15, 2013.

  2. Amanda and Nadase, I don't what factors decide in each house getting such different closing dates. I look at both your lots and it seems like Nadase is a little further along, maybe just a step but you are saying Amanda is closing first?
We are also building a Rome, they started framing Thursday and today we had two floors! Roof was also in the fronyard so it should be up by tmw since the guys were working on the weekend. Our closing date is Dec 5th according to PM.

    1. I think the difference between our two houses has to do with the neighborhoods. Nadase was told that another house is going to take precedence, if I'm understanding the situation correctly, and we don't have anything like that. I've also been told by our (completely non-biased! sure...) SR that our division is one of the best in the company, so perhaps that has something to do with the speediness. The fact that our contract says Nov/Dec might be a factor too, though I'm not really sure how that works. So in other words...I don't know. :D

    2. I agree about it depending on community tocommunity. Also depends on how many lots need work on. In our case, we bought the last lot, so right now the guys are workingonjust3 lotsandI am guessing they want to get this community out ofthe 'working' stage anddone!:) But one thing that's interesting is that although we were the last one's to sign (for the last lot), our house is the farthestalongamongthe 3 lots left.

So happy for your progress! And I didn't knowputting the roof up would be exciting. I should maybe go again tmw. I think our roof should be going up then :D

    3. Well, ~I~ think it's exciting. Your mileage may vary. The HH house we did was only one story, so we lifted the...trusses? struts? big triangle things?...up ourselves. I would imagine with a two-story house that they'll need big machinery to lift, and that's just cool! :)
